There are many different types of degrees that you can get online, and depending on what you plan to do with it, you may or may not need a fully accredited online college degree. The choice is really up to you.

The difference between an accredited online college degree and one that is unaccredited is one that matters only to your future employers. When you get a degree, it is rare that an employer will ask if the institution was accredited, unless it is obvious that it wasn’t from the name itself. The only exception to that is if you are planning on getting a job like a teacher or law enforcement professional where an accredited online college degree would be necessary.

The advantages to an unaccredited degree are many. You usually don’t have to take as many classes, the requirements for graduation are less, and you can often use “life experience” in exchange for actual class credits. If you are in a hurry to get a degree, then this is definitely the way to do it.

In most cases, though, it is always best to get an accredited degree if you have the time and the money to do so. When you get a proper degree, you are ensuring not only that you will have a piece of paper that is well-respected wherever you go, but you will also be learning as much as you can. And, isn’t that the purpose of the degree in the first place?

You can get unaccredited degree diplomas, but they often are not worth the paper they are printed on. So, take your time, take your classes, learn as much as you can, and you will graduate with a degree and a diploma that you can be proud of.
