Online classes can be a change for somebody who is used to the structure of physical lectures, school cafeterias and the university social scene, but structured well, participating in online classes can offer many great advantages over the old school way of education.

True it is that we need others. Others help us learn, reflect back on ourselves the truth of our human experience, but just because there are not people buzzing around you in the halls of a university doesn’t mean that there aren’t ample opportunities to have social connections. If you are taking online classes one huge benefit is that you can schedule your study around important social events with friends or activities where you can get to know people. Because people are important in your development in more ways than one, make sure to schedule in THIS time as well as time for your classes.

Some mistakenly assume that they need 4 straight hours to study well. There are many things that you can do to help you utilize even 15 minutes of time that are everywhere during the day. I had a roommate that even broke up and scheduled every 15 minute block of his time so that he would be sure to utilize every last moment for learning and play alike.

Important in any schedule is consistency. You may have a work schedule that prevent you from always studying at the same time, but the beauty of online classes is that you can spend your time working when you need to and studying when you need to as well.

A beautiful thing about online classes is that because you don’t have to be in a particular location to do them you can spend time traveling where you want to do. You can plan to spend class and study time at the library, a park, the mountains or even on the beach…all assuming you have an internet connection or have downloaded your necessary class work to your portable university otherwise known as a laptop. The only thing you’ll have to be careful of is to not put off your work for surfing, sleeping or browsing the library for the latest comics books or romance novels.

Another good tip for scheduling your online classes is to simply change your sleep habits. Early to bed, early to rise isn’t just a saying, it’s truth, plain and simple. Waking up alert and refreshed to prepare for your day gives you much more alertness and capability to work hard and focused during your scheduled time for study and classes. If you’re not already doing this, I’d suggest you try it for a week and see how it goes. Get in bed by ten at night and wake at five thirty or six. When you wake, gain some clarity about your day by planning and connect to your goals.

One huge thing you’re going to have to watch out for is those things that steal your time. Pay attention today and tomorrow for the things you’re actually spending your time on. You’d be surprised if you don’t already know just how much time you can waste in surfing the web, playing video games or just aimlessly wandering around the house looking for something to do.

There definitely is a way for you to structure your time to get the most out of your online classes. Beware the pitfalls of distraction, plan ahead in fifteen minute increments and get good rest and you’ll be in a much better place to enjoy the classes rather than dread them.
