I have always had this dreamy sort of vision of taking my laptop or my journal and hitting the hills or mountains of the Eastern states or Europe. The image includes peaceful feelings that fill my soul as I look down upon a green farming village in Ireland or the snow capped peaks of the Andes. Each time I play around with the idea it gives me something more, something I suspect would have remained dormant had I not entertained the idea. That thing is meaning. It’s excitement for life and all its possibilities and wonders.

It’s about this time that my marveling that I do something stupid and share the thoughts with a friend or family member. Don’t you think that would be hard? How would you pay for it? What about your schooling? It’s rather annoying when reality collides with dreams. It never seems to budge in the slightest, especially when expressed through “in-the-box” thinkers. Dreams always seems to lose some of their motivating power when seen through these darkened, unenlightened eyes.

You see, for me, there is a real magic is in the thinking. What I mean by that is that when I can go to far away lands with my mind and then begin to craft real scenarios on how to realize the vision, I come alive. And it is not just by going to far away lands, but by creating things and making things better than they are, in building people and personal growth through education.

That is why it is so confusing to have my dreams shot down without a little indulgence. It is not like a trip for me would exclude any sort of education. Yeah, so back to the question, what about my schooling? I’m not so sure that overlooking a lake swept by morning mist would automatically preclude me from earning a degree.

As it turns out there are many options online now for learning and getting a degree in just about whatever you could think of.

So, picture this: I register for online classes to get a hotel degree and then I book a flight or drive to a favorite exotic place where I can live in a hostel with internet access. During the morning I do some basic work to earn my keep. Download any materials I need and spend the day hiking and studying in the hills and by rivers. I return at night to check out the local hotels and interview or shadow the management there. I thank them by publishing reviews of their hotel on the web.

And because I’ve worked out this specially designed course with my professor or online college I get to experience one of my dreams while continuing to build my mind and live go the traditional route. You see, it’s all in how you frame it. Henry Ford was right when he said, “Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.” With a little creativity you can combine your dreams with traditional ways of doing things and you may just come out of it all with an online hotel degree.
